The electric future is nearing...
The electric future is nearing; we're all starting to make changes in our day to day life, so why not make the biggest change of them all and change to a Hybrid or Electric vehicle?
Types of electric vehicles:
Battery-electric vehicle (BEV)
A vehicle powered only by electricity, also known as a ‘pure’ or 100% electric car.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)
A vehicle that has a battery, electric drive motor and an internal combustion engine (ICE - a normal diesel or petrol engine). It can be driven using the engine, electric motor, or both, and can be recharged from an external power source.
Extended range electric vehicle (E-REV)
These are a version of plug-in hybrids. An E-REV combines a battery, an electric drive motor and a small petrol or diesel generator.
Benefits of electric vehicles:
Lower running costs.
A full charge in a pure electric vehicle will give a typical range of over 200 miles and will cost approximately £8-12 if charging at home. Driving 200 miles in a petrol or diesel car will cost around £26-32 in fuel.
There are fewer mechanical components in an electric vehicle compared with conventional vehicles, which often results in lower servicing and maintenance costs.
Pure EVs have no road tax.
Only zero emission vehicles – those emitting 0g/km CO2 – qualify for the cleaner vehicle discount. Fully electric vehicles are exempt from congestion charges which will save you money each time you visit a big city. Hybrid vehicles are also reduced or no charges. All other vehicles, will be required to pay the Congestion Charge.
Free parking for electric vehicles is available in some towns and cities.
