Hybrid Vehicles are becoming extremely popular all around the world. This is due to the low emissions and low tax. They are a combination of either petrol or diesel with an electric powered motor.

A plug in Hybrid is exactly what is stated in the name. It is plugged in to charge the battery. It has a greater electrical range in compariosn to the standard hybrid. The plug in Hybrid swithces between the electric motor and combustion engine. The electric power can cover the whole journey or part depending on how far you are travelling. For example the vehilce will switch from Hybrid to petrol when travelling above 15 MPH. This is different for every vehilce. Some vehicles even alow you to choose when you would like to switch from electric to petrol.

You can charge Hybrid vehicles from your own home this can be done VIA an extention lead or outside plug. As long as the vehicle is off the road. This is the easiest and most common way to charge your vehicle as you can leave it plugged in overnight. You can also charge it at various plug in stations that are located at fuel stations, shopping centres, service stations and hotels etc. There also a mobile app you can use to help find the nearest charging points.

What are the advantages of purchasing a Hybrid Vehicle?

A hybrid vehilce (PHEV)  will use less fuel in comparison to a petrol or diesel vehicle. They are low road tax due to the low emissions. Also, Hybrid vehicles may avoid congestion charges in bigger cities due to low emissions. 

What are the disadvantages of a Hybrid vehicle?

The main disadvantage to Hybrid vehicles are their silent engines. This is becoming a major safety concern for pedestrians and other road users. However, there is on going campagins to prevent this from cotinuing in the future.
